From their home in Kamloops, BC, Blythe Carson takes her dogs Posie and Chief hiking at Lac Du Bois, a 20-minute drive north of the city.
“It’s a lovely, easy hike to do in any season,” says Blythe, who lets her pups swim and ramble along the paths. Wildlife abounds in the area so dogs should remain leashed. On one of the trio’s adventures, they spotted a black bear and her cubs wrestling in a clearing. “It was definitely one of the most memorable hikes of my life,” she says.

Expert Tip
Blythe advises pet parents with reactive dogs to find walk schedules and destinations where they’re less likely to run into other dogs. Not only does this decrease reactivity and stress levels, it also makes for a more pleasant walk for you and your dog.
